Is money bad for the character?

Money is not bad per se. If you have enough money, you can dedicate yourself to other, better things. Having enough money gives you security, it spins a safety net around you.

The problem arises when you have to think about the lack of money all the time, when your whole life revolves around that issue. When you have to calculate at the supermarket checkout if you have enough cash for the vegetables, or whether you can buy the children that chocolate bar for a change - or not.

That stress is much more damaging to the psyche than anything else.
