At Dubai's airports, Dubai International Airport and Dubai World Central, the use of disposable plastic is now prohibited. Cafés, restaurants and other shops in the terminals are obliged to replace the plastic with more environmentally friendly products. Both airports handle a total of around ninety million passengers per year. Up to now, this has resulted in about 5,500 tons of plastic waste per year.
