Indonesia's capital is already below sea level and is sinking 25 centimetres per year in some places. One reason for this is the illegal wells from which many of the 30 million people supply themselves with water. Jakarta's Committee for sustainable coastal management has developed solutions to this problem: Water collection facilities, stricter monitoring of groundwater use and wastewater use.
